The Crusaders fullback will join the Canon Eagle, coached by former Springboks coach Allister Coetzee, on a short-term contract at the conclusion of the Super Rugby season.

Dagg’s departure to Japan means the fullback will not represent Hawke’s Bay in the National Provincial Cup and has dented his opportunity to play for the All Blacks during the Rugby Championship.

In an interview with Stuff, Dagg said: “For me, it is just [a chance] to see a bit of the world, take my family to Tokyo. It is going to be an awesome adventure. What happens after that takes care of itself. I am happy with the decision I have made and just want to look forward to it.

“Before then, I have got a job to do here. My main focus is on doing that for this team,”
