Dargaville: Brumbies need to score more tries

The Brumbies returned to winning ways last week when they beat the Bulls 23-6 to reclaim first place in the Australian conference after going down to the Crusaders and the Highlanders in Round Nine and 10 respectively.

"It's probably the closest the Australian conference has been in years," said Dargaville.

"It's important that we score tries and win games by three converted tries."

Looking forward to the Round 12 meeting with the Rebels, Dargaville said that they've seen every game as a crucial encounter and their meeting with the Rebels will be no different.

"The Rebels are a good side," he said.

"They've been building for years now, they have good depth and they've got some good players and international players.

"We've seen every game as a potentially crucial game from the beginning of the season, so there's not much to change going into the Rebels game.

"Every Australian derby has been intense and I expect nothing less."

The 24-year-old said that their win over the Bulls boosted their confidence and, with Dargaville and Nigel Ah Wong starting at wing following injury to Joe Tomane and Henry Speight's unavailability due to Sevens commitments and Robbie Coleman gaining experience at inside centre in Matt Toomua's absence, the outfit have put a lot of effort into getting their combinations right.

"It does boost our confidence,"

"We were dissapointed not to get a bonus point, but the win puts us in good stead going forward."

"We're focusing on our combination; Nigel and I haven't played a lot and Robbie (Coleman) hasn't played at 12 much."

The Brumbies' backline was certainly dealt a blow being stripped of Tomane, Speight and Toomua, but Dargaville says the absence of the stalwarts will help the less experienced improve their game.

"If you lose quality players everyone of course thinks that the quality of the side will drop, but that just gives the younger guys an opportunity to prove themselves," he said.

"Years from now they will move on, so I think you just need to put yourself in a good space when you get opportunities.

"If you have players of that quality you can't really replace them, but Nigel's an amazing athlete, Robbie's a good player and I feel like I get in and put my head down and do the hard work, so I think we just work."

"But I do think once we get some of the more experienced guys back we'll be well placed.
