Deysel joins Japan exodus

Springbok loose forward Jean Deysel has become the latest in a growing list of Sharks players who will ply their trade in Japan.

Deysel joins fellow Boks Ryan Kankowski, JP Pietersen and Keegan Daniel – with the latter the most recent, before Deysel, to announce his departure.

The Sharks confirmed on Wednesday that the four-times capped Bok, Deysel, will depart the franchise at the end of the Super Rugby season to join Japanese Top League club, Toyota Verblitz on a two-year deal.

Having made his debut in 2007, Deysel has been capped an impressive 117 times for The Sharks and is an integral part of a team that he has played in for close-on eight years now.

The 29-year-old made his Test debut against Italy in Udine in 2009 and played all three his other Tests in 2011. His only start was in the 7-40 loss to New Zealand in July 2011 – the other three Test caps were all off the bench.

Commenting on his departure Sharks CEO John Smit said Deysel will always be regarded as a team man who gave 110 percent, whether in training or during a match.

"He has been a loyal servant of the Sharks and will be missed," Smit said.

"His departure is a huge loss to the Sharks, but we respect his decision and wish him and his family the very best in Japan."

Deysel described it as one of his toughest decision when he signed to move to Japan.

"The Sharks is a franchise which means the world to me," Deysel said.

"I have learnt so much from this place and I am eternally grateful to this franchise for their belief, support and guidance over the years.

"Moving abroad presents a new opportunity for my family and I to experience a new culture and way of life.

"The memories of this franchise and most importantly the friendships I have made along the way will remain with me forever."
