Foley calls for packed house
Waratahs flyhalf Bernard Foley has urged the Sydney supporters to roll into Allianz Stadium to back his side when they meet the Highlanders on Saturday.
The Highlanders defeated the Chiefs in the Super Rugby play-off 24-14 in Dunedin to book their semifinal berth in Sydney.
Speaking to media after training in Sydney on Monday, Foley spoke candidly about the need to pack Allianz Stadium with Waratahs supporters.
"The games we played here last year at the end of the season was enormous for us. To have that home ground advantage, really gives us a lift. To get the Waratahs crowd back to loving their Rugby is great for us," Foley told the Waratahs website.
"We’ve been slowly building and we haven't had the interruption where teams get broken up by the June International window and we’ve been able to build slowly and get that momentum rolling.
"I think the Highlanders are such a dangerous side. They showed on the weekend that they could be the mix of attacking flair, physicality and work rate which strangled the Chiefs out of the game."
The Highlanders defeated the defending champions in Round Five 26-19 where the Waratahs were unable to capitalise on their lions share of possession and Foley warned should be a cause for concern.
"We know firsthand how dangerous the Highlanders can be. Their wings hurt us in Dunedin earlier in the year but I think We’ll be much better prepared this weekend."
With the excitement of finals in the air, Foley said the Waratahs were looking forward to the occasion.
"This Saturday is a semifinal. It’s great to be in that position and we’re relishing the challenge."
