Foley walks out on 'Tahs

Waratahs coach Michael Foley has resigned from his post with the Sydney franchise and is expected to take over at the Western Force.

Foley has been under pressure following a highly disappointing season which saw the Waratahs limp to 11th place on the standings, winning just four games and losing their last eight.

Speculation has been growing in Sydney that Foley would part ways with the team, especially considering the talent he had at his disposal and the fact that they qualified for the play-offs last year.

The news of Foley's resignation comes just a day after chairman Edwin Zemancheff stepped down from the Waratahs board.

According to reports in the Australian media Foley is poised to sign a three-year contract with the Force who have been without a head coach since Reds-bound Richard Graham parted ways with them mid-season.

Foley said he was grateful for the support he got this year and added that he was particularly proud of making the play-offs last year and competing in a semifinal the year before.

"I'd like to thank the organisation and team for their support throughout my time here, particularly over the past season.

"While it's been a challenging season for everyone, being involved over the last four years has been extremely rewarding, particularly being part of a team that was able to play in two finals series.

"I believe that the squad and organisation has the potential to turn it around and I wish everyone the best for next season," he said.

Speaking on behalf of the Waratahs Rugby Board, Al Baxter said that they would start looking for a replacement immediately.

"We firmly believe that this position is a highly sought-after role and will begin the appointment process with immediate effort," he said.
