Gatland starts mind games ahead of Super opener
SUPER RUGBY SPOTLIGHT: New Chiefs head coach Warren Gatland won’t be thinking too much about his team’s 19-26 loss to the Blues in a pre-season match on Friday.
The two teams will meet again in a fortnight for their Super Rugby opener and Gatland has already started the mind games with his assessment of Friday’s result.
“Just a little bit of accuracy and things to work on, our drive was good, a couple of things to work on at scrum time, but there was nothing that the Blues did today from an attacking perspective that we would take away and be worried about,” Gatland told stuff.co.nz.
He added: “Yeah, they’ve [Blues] got some big men that we’ve got to deal with in a few weeks’ time, but it should be one hell of a game at Eden Park.”
Meanwhile, Blues head coach Leon McDonald said he was focusing on his own team’s performance rather than what the Chiefs were trying to do.
“You don’t show your whole hand, obviously,” he said.
“We’re looking at certain parts of our game as opposed to our ability to trick them through special moves or anything like that.”
