Hansen inks deal with Brumbies
NEWS: Brumbies revealed that local pathway product Mack Hansen has committed to the franchise for next season.
A Brumbies Academy graduate, the 22-year-old has worn his boyhood team colours six teams on the Super Rugby stage, famously kicking a penalty goal to win against the Reds after the siren in Round Five of Vodafone Super Rugby AU.
Born in Sydney but bred in Canberra, the Daramalan College alumni has been part of the Brumbies squad since 2018, developing his game while playing locally for the Gungahlin Eagles in the John I Dent Cup and with the Canberra Vikings in the National Rugby Championship.
After making his Super Rugby debut against the Waratahs in 2019, Hansen earned his first start for the club this season in a win at GIO Stadium against the Melbourne Rebels.
The former Junior Wallabies fullback has shown his versatility in 2020, playing across the backline from flyhalf to the wing, becoming an important member of Dan McKellar’s squad.
Brumbies utility back Mack Hansen said: “To be able to continue playing for the team I grew up supporting is a great feeling.”
“The group here at the moment is building something special and I want to continue to be a part of that.
“To be able to work with world-class coaches and staff is a real positive and I’m looking forward to continuing to improve as a player and a person here in Canberra.”
Brumbies coach Dan McKellar said: “It’s great to be able to have Mack around the club for 2021.”
“He’s been in the system for a long time and is another example of the Brumbies pathway supporting local talents and developing them into professional footballers.
“He’s the type of character you want around the group, he’s very well liked by the team and the organisation and we’re all looking forward to seeing him continue to improve next year.”
