Hurricanes sign another Savea

The Hurricanes have revealed  that 18-year-old Ardie Savea will join older brother Julian in the Super Rugby ranks next season.

He signed with the Wellington-based franchise for two years.

The former Rongotai College head boy has signed with the franchise, while competing in his first NPC campaign with the Wellington Lions, and after starring on the IRB World Sevens Circuit with New Zealand.

"It's awesome to be a part of the Hurricanes," the younger Savea said.

"When I was little I watched Jonah and some greats in the Canes jersey, so I feel very honoured to get this opportunity," he added.

In his debut provincial season, he has scored six tries in his eight appearances for Wellington, bringing some of that sevens flair to his style of play.

Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett was excited to sign his young recruit.

"Ardie is skilful player and we are delighted to have him join the Hurricanes for the next two years," Hammett said.

"He has great potential and we look forward to working with him to help develop his fifteens career."

Wellington Rugby and Hurricanes CEO James Te Puni added: "I have enjoyed watching Ardie's transition into the Ricoh Wellington Lions this year like many of our fans have.

"He has a bright future and it is fantastic to see he is so passionate about representing his home franchise."
