Lions coach is back
NEWS: The Lions will have head coach Swys de Bruin back next week.
The Lions confirmed that De Bruin will be back with the team from Monday, May 6.
“Swys looks forward to preparing the team for the Waratahs match, taking place at Ellis Park [next] Saturday, May 11,” the Lions said in a statement on Friday.
De Bruin, in a recent interview with @rugby365com, said he was doing “much better” after returning home from New Zealand.
De Bruin departed New Zealand – on the eve of the team’s 23-17 win over the Chiefs in Hamilton – for “medical” reasons.
Since his arrival back in South Africa, it has been confirmed that the condition was “stress related”.
“I am getting very good treatment and there is fantastic progress,” De Bruin told @rugby365com.
Ivan van Rooyen, who took charge of the Lions during the Currie Cup competition last year, was the caretaker coach in De Bruin’s absence.
