Lions players trying to get 'on same page'

SUPER RUGBY SPOTLIGHT: The Lions are preparing for a physical onslaught when they face the Rebels in Melbourne on Saturday.

The Lions lost their first game on tour 17-29 to the Waratahs in Parramatta last week, while The Rebels are coming off an impressive 28-22 win over the Highlanders in Dunedin

The Rebels’ pack put in an impressive performance in New Zealand and Lions scrum coach Julian Redelinghuys knows that his team will have to step up physically if they are to upset the home side.

“We can’t expect the Rebels to be the same as the Waratahs,” said Redelinghuys. “I think they [Rebels] have a good pack and we have respect for them.

“This week is going to be a good battle up front, which is what we love. We love the physical aspects of the game, so for us, it’s just about getting everyone on the same page and I believe we are getting closer to that.”

Redelinghuys added that dominance with the pack will be key for both teams’ attacking game on Saturday.

“I think Australian teams historically have been teams that want to dominate up front. They pride themselves with their packs and the way they prepare

“Everyone knows that if the forwards do well and then the game is easier for the backs. We are expecting a big battle and it is something we can’t wait for. That is why we play Super Rugby,” he said.
