Lions take cubs to Harare

The squad features some familiar names, but most have little or no Super Rugby experience.

The Lions are still waiting for some of their stars, who have been playing abroad, to be integrated back into the squad

Late arrivals include five players from Japan and one from France – Warren Whiteley (Red Hurricanes), Jaco Kriel (Kubota Spears), Lionel Mapoe (Kubota Spears), Elton Jantjies (Shining Arcs), Franco Mostert (Black Rams) and Andries Ferreira (Toulon).

Star flank Warwick Tecklenburg announced his retirement from all rugby on Tuesday.

Players missing through injury include Springbok prop Julian Redelinghuys (neck fracture, unlikely to play in 2017), Springbok wing Ruan Combrinck (shoulder surgery – return to action expected in April) and prop Dylan Smith (shoulder surgery – return to action in March).
