No place like home for the Reds

The Reds arrived in Johannesburg hoping to have left their baggage of losses behind in Australia.

They have been under the cosh at home, conjuring up a mere one win and having conceded the most points (166) in the Australian conference.

Not to mention off-field incidents, injuries, and red-card offences from James Horwill that have spiced up their dismal campaign thus far.

No place like home for the RedsFor Liam Gill, it has been a relief leaving the home country, the openside flank commented that: "it is good being on tour now, getting away from Australia and trying to put something together."

'Putting something together' is an understatement if they want to squeeze out a win against the South African conference leaders, the Bulls, at Loftus Versfeld this coming weekend.

The Reds have not won a game at Loftus since the days of Dan Herbert and Tim Horan in 2001.

Gill, however, is aware of the challenge the Bulls pose, and their record at the fortress Loftus in Pretoria.

"We have not beaten the Bulls, at Loftus, in a million years," he said.

The Reds will relish the opportunity, and despite the bad press that has surrounded the team, they are hungry for a challenge and a win over the Bulls.

"To have that opportunity to go down there and try and put one over on them, it really does excite us regardless of players, positions and circumstance – we just want to go there and get a win," Gill added.

Gill has been an added boost back for the Reds following his return from suspension for his choke-hold/wrestling move on Brumbies scrumhalf, Nic White.

The flank, playing the fetcher role for the Reds, had a monumental comeback for the side with an outstanding performance against the Rebels in Round Eight.

Gill won a number of crucial turnovers at ruck-time, and proved to be a menace for the rebels all day.
