Nonu v Williams: NZ trial

 

The two All Blacks are well aware that all eyes will be on them. In many respects it's a New Zealand trial between the two inside centres but Williams says it's all about getting the crucial win.

 

"I think a lot of emphasises or talk will be about that this week but for myself it's just about going down there and trying to play some good footy [rugby] and hopefully getting the win," Williams said at Chiefs training.

 

"People will say what they want to say but that's just where I guess my mind is set and I know their [the Hurricanes] mind-set will definitely be just like that as well."

 

The Chiefs are hoping to stop the high-flying Hurricanes who have won 10 of their 11 matches so far this season and sit 10 points ahead of the second place Waikato-based franchise in the New Zealand conference.

 

Williams is putting individual battles to one-side in a hope to help the Chiefs close that gap and make sure they come off their bye with plenty of momentum.

 

"They're playing some good footy [rugby], they have strike weapons all across the field, especially in their backs. But hopefully the week off has done us good and it's going to be a great challenge."

 

Chiefs coach Dave Rennie is well aware one of his superstars is coming up against a very tough opponent.

 

"It's a big game for him [Williams] and Nonu, no doubt a chance to mark up against each other, and I think Ma'a's [Nonu] going really well, so I know Sonny [Williams] will be highly motivated."
