Orie's experience 'invaluable' for Stormers
SPOTLIGHT: Captain Salmaan Moerat has revealed the impact Springbok lock Marvin Orie has had on the Stormers squad since he arrived from the Lions.
Orie is set to make his first Stormers appearance from the replacements bench against his former team at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
The 28-year-old has three Springbok caps to his name and he previously played for the Bulls before his spell with the Lions between 2017 and 2021.
“We all know Marvin is a quality rugby player,” Moerat told reporters on Friday.
“Obviously, he has been with the Springboks and I think that experience that he brings is invaluable.
“He is a very good line-out organiser, so I think in that aspect he will take a lot of initiative and he already has.
“We learnt a lot from him in this last couple of weeks. We have been working really hard off the scene, so he will be really excited to go against his former team the Lions.”
Meanwhile, Stormers coach Dawie Snyman has revealed the reason behind No.8 Juarno Augustus’ absence from the matchday squad for Saturday’s encounter.
“Unfortunately, Augustus broke his hand in that game against the Bulls, so he is unavailable for selection,” Snyman explained.
