Penxe to 'add huge value to Sharks'
REACTION: With key outside backs missing, Yaw Penxe will be a valuable addition to the Sharks’ squad.
It was revealed this week that Penxe and fellow Southern Kings star, Thembelani Bholi, have joined the Durban side on “short-term loans”.
Penxe, 23, was one of the players who impressed during last weekend’s Springbok Showdown with Bok assistant coach Mzwandile Stick predicting that “a lot of teams will be after him now”.
Sharks stars Aphelele Fassi (long term), Sibusiso Nkosi and Madosh Tambwe are all out injured, while Makazole Mapimpi is currently in Japan.
“It’s unfortunate that we have had injuries in that [wing] position. Mapimpi has left to go to Japan and we are happy for him that he’s got that opportunity,” said Sharks coach Sean Everitt
“S’bu is probably another two to three weeks away. Madosh just missed out on selection [for the Lions match] and another week will do him good. We also have a bye next week, so it gives him extra time to recover from his injury.
“We feel Yaw is a player that really shone in the Pro14. He did a damn good job on Saturday in the [Green] team.
“He nearly had a try-scoring opportunity that was set up by Sanele Nohamba. He is certainly a young guy like that can add huge value to the Sharks going forward.”
The Sharks face the Lions in Durban on Friday in the opening round of Super Rugby Unlocked.
