SA prop resigns with Hurricanes

Ahead of the Hurricanes opening Super Rugby match, against the Blues this Saturday, loose forward Brad Shields and prop Reggie Goodes have re-committed to the Hurricanes and Wellington Lions.

As the pair begin to tackle their second Super Rugby season, their re-signing is welcome news for Hurricanes and Wellington Rugby CEO James Te Puni.

"This is fantastic for our region and the Hurricanes," Te Puni said.

"Both are hardworking, dedicated young men who reflect the team culture we seek to create. They are great role models for aspiring Hurricanes," Te Puni added.

The South African-born prop, Goodes, made an exciting start to his Super Rugby in 2012 and is looking forward to doing it all a second time around this year.

Goodes will add to the hotly contested propping positions within the 2013 team.

"I'm very happy to have re-signed with the Lions and extend my Hurricanes contract to the end of 2014," Goodes said.

"It's an exciting two years ahead."

Shields, who successfully came back on the field in Mangatainoka after sustaining a knee injury last July, was thrilled to continue his career with the Canes.

"I'm stoked that I can play where I love and I can't see myself playing anywhere else. There is such an awesome team culture here and it is pretty special to be a part of it," Shields explained.

Shields has signed for the Hurricanes for the 2014 season and extended his Wellington Lions contract for 2013.
