Season over for Wulf
The battling Blues have suffered another backline blow with the news that wing Rudi Wulf is set to undergo shoulder surgery on Wednesday.
The speedy outside back has been struggling with the injury for some time, and Blues coach Pat Lam confirmed that he will have to go under the knife to sort the issue out.
He told Fairfax NZ News: "Unfortunately Rudi Wulf has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
"He had a scan last week on his shoulder and the fracture he had six-seven weeks ago hasn't healed at all. He's having surgery on Wednesday and that's another blow to us," Lam explained.
The loss of Wulf leaves the Blues seriously short on firepower out wide, with David Raikuna out with a broken leg and George Moala, Gareth Anscombe and Isaia Toeava all ruled out for the rest of the season as well.
As a result of these injury woes Lam has called on the services of Northland veteran Orene Ai'i and Sevens star Charles Piutau.
Thanks to their bye last week the Blues have had a full month's break, and Lam said that they are ready to end a disappointing season with a flourish in their last two games.
"We had a week off initially and then had two solid weeks where we did some pretty physical work and tidied up our game," Lam said.
"Then we gave them another week [break], everyone's pretty refreshed and looking forward to our last game on Eden Park this season.
"We want to finish this well and to do that it's going to require us preparing well. So everyone's in good spirits and we're looking forward to the week ahead," he added.
