Sharks' flyhalf stocks take a knock

SQUAD UPDATE: The Sharks’ flyhalf stocks will be a little thin over the next few weeks.

Ahead of their third tour match against the Melbourne Rebels in Melbourne, head coach Sean Everitt confirmed that young flyhalf Boeta Chamberlain has gone home and he will “be out for a couple of weeks with a concussion.”

Chamberlain left the field after 20 minutes against the Hurricanes with replacement scrumhalf Sanele Nohamba taking over the No.10 duties for the rest of the match.

The good news for the Sharks is that they got Curwin Bosch back after he was granted personal leave last week because of a family bereavement.

Springbok wing Lwazi Mvovo has joined the squad in Melbourne as a replacement for Chamberlain.

Everitt has also revealed that Bok wing Makazole Mapimpi (concussion) came though his “return to play protocol” and should be available for Saturday’s match.

Everitt refused to blame the injuries for his team’s 22-38 defeat to the Hurricanes last weekend.

“We never spoke about the injuries and disruptions after the game,” said Everitt.

“The guys have trained well with us throughout the pre-season, so we are not going to use that as an excuse.

“It obviously does influence the team especially when you have guys on the bench that were not expecting to play. But in saying that the guys showed tremendous fight in that game apart from the individual errors that are easily fixable.”
