Mapimpi is one of several players to sign contract extensions with the Sharks recently.

The others are Lukhanyo Am, Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Madosh Tambwe, Kerron van Vuuren, Marius Louw, John-Hubert Meyer, Jaden Hendrikse and JJ van der Mescht.
In June it was revealed that Mapimpi was heading to Japan to join Johan Ackermann’s Red Hurricanes on a short-term deal.
The 30-year-old is then set to return to Durban in April 2021.
Holding onto Mapimpi’s services is a big boost to the Sharks. Like Am, he was part of Rassie Erasmus’ World Cup-winning squad in 2019.
