Sharks play 'outstanding rugby' says Du Preez
SUPER RUGBY SPOTLIGHT: Sharks head coach Robert du Preez believes his team will be taking some “momentum” into their clash with the Lions, despite their defeat to the Bulls last weekend.
The Sharks went down 16-19 to the Bulls in an error-ridden game at Kings Park and they will be underdogs in their Round Eight clash at Ellis Park.
“It is a tough assignment. The Lions are on a high,” Du Preez told reporters in Durban ahead of Saturday’s game.
“It is always tough up there [in Johannesburg], but we are very positive. We won everything except the match on Saturday [against the Bulls].
“I thought there were some fantastic positives that we can take out of it and we will take that type of momentum into this game on Friday.”
The Sharks have failed to beat fellow South African opposition so far this season having lost twice to the Bulls and once to the Stormers.
However, Du Preez believes there is nothing wrong with their current “game model” for derby matches.
“I just think we got outplayed in the first game against the Bulls at Loftus. In the game against the Stormers, I think we lost the physical battle.
“Last Saturday against the Bulls I thought we played some outstanding rugby – from a stats point of view we won all the stats except the game in the end.
“We are pleased with our game model. All South African derbies are tight affairs. In fact, if you look at all Super Rugby games over the last couple of weeks there has only been one or two points [difference] in some of those games.”
The Sharks are third in the South African Conference with three wins and three losses from their six games so far.
