Sharks raid Stormers' ranks
Sharks head coach Robert du Preez announced the signings of Stormers loose forward Jacques Vermeulen and centre Kobus van Wyk as their pre-season training commenced on Monday.
Van Wyk has been with French side Bordeaux-Begles for the last two months as an emergency replacement for injured fullback Darly Domvo.
The most high-profile name on the list of new signings is that of French international Clement Poitrenaud, 34, who joins the Durban-based franchise on a one-year deal.
Other newcomers include Enoch Mnyaka (EP Kings tighthead prop – two years), Southern Kings centre Jeremy Ward (two years) and Namibia/Leopards centre Johan Deysel (two years).
"We have a young and exciting team who are building for the future," said Du Preez. "It's a key focus area for us to retain the young talent in our squad, which will create continuity and stability with our vision going forward."
Meanwhile, Odwa Ndungane and Rowan Gouws have extended their contracts with the Sharks for another year.
Andre Esterhuizen, Benhard Janse van Rensburg, Curwin Bosch, Franco Marais, Jean Droste, John-Hubert Meyer, Marius Louw, Neil Maritz, Rhyno Smith, Stephan Lewies and Tristan Blewett have all signed on for another two years with the Sharks.
Hyron Andrews, Mzamo Majola, Sibusiso Nkosi and Thomas du Toit have signed on for another three years.
Wandile Mjekevu and Neil Maritz will join the Southern Kings on loan for Super Rugby 2017.
