Stormers' Bok duo doubtful for Highlanders clash

INJURY UPDATE: The Stormers will be keeping a close eye on two of their Springboks ahead of their Super Rugby Round 15 clash against the Highlanders in Cape Town on Saturday.

Hooker Bongi Mbonambi and centre Damian de Allende are the two injury concerns for the Cape side after their 19-all draw with the Crusaders.

Mbonambi suffered a quad injury and went for scans to determine the extent of the injury. The Stormers were due to get feedback on the injury on Monday.

De Allende got a “shot to his leg” and he will be monitored during the week.

If De Allende is unavailable, the Stormers could give EW Viljoen an opportunity in the midfield. There is also the option of Dan Kriel, who came off the bench against the Crusaders.

“EW Viljoen is training with us at the moment,” said Stormers assistant coach Dawie Snyman.

“He joined us last week after coming back from injury. If Damian is not available, a guy like EW will get an opportunity, but we also have a look at a guy like Dan Kriel who I thought did well when he got onto the field

“It’s nice to have healthy competition – EW is also a great player, so to leave him out is not always easy but hopefully within the next two or three games he will get a shot.”
