Stormers star out with 'serious' injury
REACTION: The Stormers will be without one of their backline stars for a lengthy period.
Head coach John Dobson confirmed that Sergeal Petersen’s leg injury is “serious”. The wing suffered the injury during his team’s 23-17 win over the Lions in their Super Rugby Unlocked fixture at Newlands on Saturday.
The injury forced Dobson to reshuffle his backline in the second half.
“Sergeal has a significant quad injury,” Dobson told reporters after the match.
“He felt it go. It’s serious and he will be out for quite a while I think.”
There was also some concern for flyhalf Damian Willemse, who left the field on a medical cart at the end of the game.
“He [Willemse] has got what us older guys called ‘lammies’ or you guys call haematomas He should be okay; he is walking around the changeroom.
“He was going really nicely at flyhalf and it was a pity that happened.”
The match against the Lions was the Stormers’ first in Super Rugby Unlocked after they had a bye in Round One.
The Stormers will now face the Pumas in Nelspruit in Round Three on Friday.
