Stormers yet to unlock full attacking potential
SUPER RUGBY REACTION: Stormers head coach John Dobson knows that his team could have put up a bigger score against the Bulls if they played to their full potential on Saturday.
The Stormers won the match 13-0 but struggled to stamp their authority on the game as they did against the Hurricanes in Round One.
While his team was outstanding on defence once again, Dobson believes they have not shown their full potential on attack in the competition so far.
“To go two Super Rugby games without a point scored against us is an achievement,” said Dobson.
“It was such a nice crowd and we wanted to delight and score tries, but we made too many mistakes. Credit to the Bulls with the way they came at us.”
He added: “We are probably operating at 30-40 percent on attack and I am sure we are going to get better.”

With the likes of Dillyn Leyds, Sergeal Petersen and Seabelo Senatla out wide, Dobson knows that if his backline gets quality ball and starts firing it will be hard for opposing teams to contain them.
“We dropped the ball three times with a forward running off No.9. We tried to build some phases and some rhythm, and it did not happen. I think this team on attack has a lot of potential and a lot more than what we have shown.
“We won that game today [Saturday] – we didn’t get the dominance we got at scrum time like we did last week. We were certainly poorer on attack, but we won two matches and we haven’t conceded points, so there is a lot to be excited about,” Dobson added.
The Stormers coach is expecting a different challenge from the Lions in Johannesburg next weekend.
“I think we are looking forward to a game with more space to try and get some rhythm on attack.
“The Lions are not the team they were a couple of years ago. We know Ellis Park is a big wide field, so you got to look after the ball.
“The Lions will be a completely different threat. Today [Saturday] was a classic derby and that [against the Lions] will be a shootout,” he said.
