Super Rugby Aotearoa - predictions and teams: Round Six
BIG BARRETT BATTLE: The four teams in the chasing pack are being given a chance to close the gap on the pace-setting Crusaders this week.
The Chiefs will look for their first win and exact some revenge when they host the Highlanders (one win from four starts) in Hamilton on Sunday.
However, it is in Wellington on Saturday where Super Rugby Aotearoa’s focus will be this week.
The Blues, with just one defeat, have the most realist chance of changing the unbeaten Crusaders.
However, it the is the battle of the Barrett brothers – Jordie (Hurricanes) and Beauden (Blues) – that has fans salivating ahead of this Round Six outing.
As was top be expected, Hurricanes coach Jason Holland this week reiterated an earlier statement that Jordie Barrett is the best fullback in New Zealand.
However, older brother Beauden has been in fine form for the Blues as a fullback.
“In my eyes, he’s the best [fullback] in the country, but he’s got to work hard to make sure he stays there and perform week in, week out,” Holland told stuff.co.nz in an interview this week.
The Hurricanes mentor still believes Beauden Barrett is more effective at flyhalf, the position he played most often in for the Hurricanes – when he featured for the Wellington team in 125 games between 2011 and 2019.
“We do things with our players to pick guys in different positions and obviously they [The Blues] think that [fullback] is the best way to get results and it’s probably proven to be the case for them so far this year,” he added.
“Beaudy is a massive threat at No.10 and he’s obviously not there from set-piece, which probably gives us some peace of mind if he’s not a threat around the No.10 channel.”
