Tight-knit Lions fighting on
Lions skipper Josh Strauss believes his team can build on their surprise victory over the Sharks by causing an upset against the Stormers on Saturday.
Strauss will continue to lead the side under interim coach Johan Ackermann and claims the team are determined to put in a good performance and are playing for each other.
"Everyone is focused on Saturday. We know we've got a tough task ahead of us," Strauss told the media.
"The Stormers are a very good team and it is a game that we really want to win as a team and we are going to win it for each other."
Despite all the chaos at the union with the suspension of coach John Mitchell, the build up for the next Super Rugby clash as been relatively normal according the bearded skipper.
"The guys have been training really well, especially Tuesday was a great training day and the feeling in the camp is great," he said.
Just before Super Rugby took a break for the international window the Lions picked up their biggest win of the season when the stunned the Sharks in Johannesburg.
The victory was exactly what the team needed following a string of defeats and some very poor performances, and Strauss admits that the break from rugby came at the wrong time for his side.
"Looking at the pros and cons, I think we would have liked to take that momentum into the next week, and we had the three week break for the Springbok Tests," he said.
"I think it was a brilliant game for us, especially looking back at the season that we've had injury and loss wise."
"We take great confidence out of a win like that, especially against a strong team like the Sharks – a team that is really a contender for the semis, final etcetera."
