Treu growing into defensive role

The former Springbok Sevens and Kenyan Sevens head coach joined the Cape side in December last year and has fitted in nicely with the rest of the Stormers' management team.

Treu said his transition from a Sevens coach to a coach one in the XV-man man game was made easier by the team culture at the Stormers.

"Fleckie [ head coach Robbie Fleck] has been a big help because this is my first year coaching at this level," said Treu at the team's High Performance Centre in Bellville on Monday.

"Our defensive efforts, and Fleck will attest to this, is very much a collective effort. I think everyone is helping [players and coaches]. 

The Stormers have conceded few in this year's competition, however, Treu is still not happy with the team's overall performance on defence. He was especially not happy with the defensive effort in 13-8 win over the Jaguares, despite the Stormers only conceding one try in the match. 

"We can never be happy as coaches and although we have not been conceding many tries, we got a certain standard that we would like to meet in every game and I don't think we can be happy with our second-half efforts against the Jaguares. 

"We missed a number of tackles. I think it's the most we have missed this season. I think in terms of our system, there is still some improvements we can do. 

"They [Jaguares] were breaking our line to often and that is something we have addressed as a management team," Treu added.

The Stormers face the Sunwolves on Friday at Newlands and Treu feels the Japanese outfit will pose different challenges.

"They [Sunwolves] really have some fancy moves," said Treu.

"They have good running lines and they have a flyhalf [Tusi Pisi] who is probably one of the best attacking players in the competition. 

"We have a different focus for every team every week and we will need to counter the challenges that they will pose on the weekend."
