VIDEO: New concerns for Bulls
INJURY UPDATE: The Bulls suffered two cruel blows before they even played in a pre-season friendly.
One-time Springbok Travis Ismaiel is unlikely to feature in the Super Rugby season, which could ruin his World Cup dream.
Ismaiel, who played his only Test for the Boks in the 20-22 loss to Wales in Washington in June last year, hasn’t recovered sufficiently from his shoulder surgery.
Bulls team doctor Herman Rossouw said the wing will have a ‘revision’ of his surgery and will be sidelined for another three months.
Seasoned hooker Jaco Visagie is also set for an extended period on the sidelines.
Visagie suffered an ankle injury while on loan to Gloucester in the Premiership.
He underwent surgery last week and will be sidelined for another eight weeks.
The good news is that Lizo Gqoboka and Tim Agaba are both training with the squad.
The squad will be without Marnitz Boshoff (end of April), Marco van Staden (shoulder – March) and Edgar Marutlulle (Achilles tendon – March) for the foreseeable future.
The Bulls face the Lions in a pre-season match in Pretoria this coming Saturday and will meet the Stormers in another pre-season match in Cape Town next Sunday, February 3.
They open their campaign against the Stormers at Loftus Versfeld on February 16.
