VIDEO: Pocock's comeback to spark Brumbies attack

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: The potential return of super scavenger David Pocock could create even more chances for the resurgent Brumbies as they seek to end their Super Rugby drought in New Zealand.

Pocock missed last weekend’s match against the Chiefs after suffering concussion in the Brumbies’ first game.

However, the superstar flank is on track to return against the Hurricanes in Palmerston North on Friday a prospect that will only enhance the side said fullback Tom Banks.

“Poey is a world-class player,” Banks told reporters, adding ” And the turnovers he can bring it helps us as a backline trying to attack unstructured defences.

“That’s what we try and do and he’s the best at getting turnovers.”

Beaten in round one by Melbourne Rebels, the Brumbies bounce back in style with a scintillating eight-try 54-17 win over the Chiefs in Canberra.

Last weekend’s win does serve as a great confidence booster, however, the Australians are very wary of not getting caught up in that trans-Tasman victory ahead of their trip to the Hurricanes.

The last time the Brumbies secured a win across the ditch was in 2014.

“Knowing you can put in a performance like that, the hard thing is to back it up,” Banks said.

“That’s what we’re trying to do this week, not be complacent.”

Fellow Wallaby Joe Powell shared the fullback’s sentiments, stating that the Hurricanes will definitely try to prove themselves following their one-point away win over the Waratahs in Sydney and the 22-38 loss to the defending champion Crusaders in Christchurch.

The Hurricanes are set to welcome back Beauden Barrett for the clash, along with flank Ardie Savea while Jordie Barrett is expected to be rested.

“I suppose it’s probably in the back of everyone’s mind that we’d love to get a win on New Zealand soil, but we haven’t really talked about it,” Powell said.

“They probably won’t be happy with their performance and they will be going out to prove a point early in the year,” Powell said.

Pocock apart, wing Henry Speight could also return this week after missing the Chiefs game with a hip injury.
