Weepu signs on with JK
The arrival of John Kirwan as the new Blues coach is already reaping rewards.
Veteran scrumhalf Piri Weepu has joined All Black teammate Ma'a Nonu in signing on for another two years with the Auckland-based franchise.
"It's official…. Sign, sealed, delivered!! Stay with the blues next season. #Happy," Weepu blurted out on his Twitter account.
He will join his close, Nonu, in working with Kirwan, who replaced Pat Lam as Blues mentor earlier this month.
After signing from the Hurricanes on a one-year deal, Weepu struggled with weight and form issues but turned those around to finish the competition strongly.
The re-signing follows rumours he was homesick for Wellington.
Kirwan told Fairfax Media he was excited about having two key All Blacks in his squad.
"They [Weepu and Nonu] are two X-factor players and I'm really glad they are here," said Kirwan.
"I'm really excited about working with him 'cause he's a world class, x-factor halfback, and you need that to win."
