Quesada gets Racing job

Former Argentinian flyhalf Gonzalo Quesada was on Monday confirmed as the new
backs coach of Racing-Metro, switching from his current position as the kicking coach of the French national side.

The 37-year-old, who was capped 38 times between 1996 and 2003, will replace New Zealander Simon Mannix, who was sacked despite Friday’s 28-9 Top 14 win over Biarritz.

Quesada had been in his present post with France for four years and had been asked by incoming France coach Philippe Saint-André to stay on as he is close to the players.

He numbered among his clubs as a player Toulon and Stade Français during eight years in French club rugby, will take up his new responsibilities immediately working under head coach Pierre Berbizier.

Mannix, 40, had been at Racing since 2007 in the days when it was still a Second Division club and had recently only extended his contract. But results in France and in Europe have been disappointing this year and he has paid the price.
