Racing sign Pumas lock

Argentina lock Manuel Carizza has signed with Top 14 club Racing Metro as medical cover following injuries suffered by New Zealander Johnny Leo'o.

The 28-year-old has been at Biarritz since 2005 and helped the Basque country club win the 2006 French title as well as the European Challenge Cup last season and also played in two losing European Cup finals in 2006 and 2010.

The international lock has 29 caps for Argentina and played six matches in the Rugby Championship involving New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

"Between the injury suffered by Santiago Dellape and the international call-up for Fidjian Jone Qovu, we thought we were short of cover in the second row," explained Racing coach Gonzalo Quesada.

Flank Leo'o is sidelined indefinitely after suffering a blood clot on the lungs.
