Sixty-day ban for outspoken Laporte
Toulon sporting director Bernard Laporte has been slapped with a Sixty-day ban by the French National Rugby League (LNR) for comments he made about the level of the refereeing during recent Top 14 games.
The former France coach criticised the refereeing after his team’s 22-22 draw against Perpignan in their Top 14 clash on March 10, as well as the previous match they won 19-6 against Montpellier.
“The club has the possibility of appealing this sanction in the coming days,” Toulon said in a statement on Thursday.
Outspoken Toulon owner and club president Mourad Boudjellal is already serving a 130-day ban after using lurid language to describe the level of refereeing in a Top 14 game against Clermont-Ferrand on January 8.
