Tragedy strikes De Villiers

France prop doubtful for Test against South Africa

France prop Pieter de Villiers is a doubt for the Test against South Africa on Saturday after the death of his brother.

De Villiers, originally from Cape Town but a naturalised Frenchman, has been at his parents' home in Darling on the Cape since the team landed on Monday.

"We will wait until Thursday or Friday to find out a decision by him concerning his participation in the match," said Jo Maso.

"We will support him in whatever decision he makes."

De Villiers, capped 55 times by France, had been anticipating this match as one more chance to play at his 'home' stadium of Newlands, where he played for Western Province U21 before moving to the North.

The team will be announced on Wednesday, with De Villiers expected to be named, and will be finalised once the prop has made his decision.
