Chiefs' young star jets to Italy
Chiefs' midfielder Anton Lienert-Brown has been called into the New Zealand Under-20 squad in Italy for the Under-20 World Cup.
Lienert-Brown, who was a key member in last year's New Zealand U20 team, replaces Mitchell Karpik who injured an ankle in New Zealand's 32-29 win over Argentina in Calvisano.
New Zealand U20 coach Scott Robertson said while it was disappointing to lose Karpick, Lienert-Brown's return to the squad meant the Junior All Blacks would lose nothing.
"Mitch [Karpik] has made a huge contribution to the team during the tournament so far, playing in both of our games. We’re very disappointed to have lost him to injury."
"However, it will be good to see Anton [Lienert-Brown] return to the squad. He will be a great addition to the team having played a key leadership role in the successful Oceania series last month."
Lienert-Brown was recalled to Chiefs duty after the Oceania Junior Championships to cover the midfield for the Super Rugby franchise after the Chiefs were dealt blows to the likes of Sonny-Bill Williams and Aaron Cruden. He will be leaving for Italy on Tuesday.
New Zealand will play Ireland this Wednesday June 10 at Stadio Luigi Zaffanella, Viadana.
