Horror tackle in World Rugby Under-20 Championship
VIDEO: One of the main complaints from fans across the game of rugby currently is the ever-changing tackle laws, and how they are officiated.
In a bid to make rugby safer, the laws surrounding contact are becoming much harsher, and it is hard for fans to keep up.
However, there was no debate in England’s recent contest with Ireland in the World Rugby U20 Championship, with one of the most clear-cut red cards this year for England’s substitute hooker Alfie Barbeary.
This was the challenge:
Barbeary had only been on the field a matter of minutes before receiving the card, and while there may have not been any real malice after Ireland’s John Hodnett’s leg was over his head, this was an inexcusable reaction.
England were only behind by two points when the red card was given with 15 minutes remaining, but they eventually went down 26-42, in a game in which they received two more yellow cards.
England red card.
