On Tuesday, Munster head Graham Rowntree said he is hopeful that RG Snyman could return to the playing field in February.

Snyman suffered a chest/shoulder injury during the World Cup Final in October and underwent surgery in South Africa in early November.

He was originally expected to return to action in March, but it now seems he is ahead of schedule with his recovery.

“He trained today [Tuesday]. His return is going to be a bit sooner potentially than the Zebre game [on March 1],” Rowntree said.

“I think we’ll see him in February, exactly when I’m not sure. He’s certainly encouraging me; he’s doing a lot more in training.”

Snyman will leave Munster at the end of the season for Irish rivals Leinster and Rowntree admired Snyman’s attitude in camp after the announcement.

“He’s been thoroughly professional and diligent around the group since his news broke and I expect nothing less from the guy. He’s been quality for us.

“What’s done is done, this is business.

“He’s made his decision [to join Leinster].

“I’m interested to see what he does for Munster for the rest of the season. I’m sure he’ll give it his all.”

Meanwhile, a few players have been ruled out of Munster’s historic clash against Super Rugby giants the Crusaders in Cork on Saturday.

Simon Zebo underwent an MRI on a knee injury last week and will see a specialist next week for review. He is unavailable this week.

John Hodnett underwent surgery on a finger injury last week and will be unavailable for eight to 10 weeks.

Paddy Patterson will go for knee surgery next week and is expected to return at the start of next season.
