Another URC derby postponed due to Covid-19
NEWS: Cardiff’s United Rugby Championship Round Eight clash against Scarlets on Sunday has been postponed due to positive Covid-19 cases.
Other Boxing Day games that have fallen victim to Covid-19 include another all-Welsh encounter between the Ospreys and Dragons and two Irish derbies – Munster v Leinster and Ulster v Connacht.
Saturday’s announcement means the Scottish derby between Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh on Monday is the only remaining URC fixture scheduled to go ahead as planned.
“The game was due to take place on Sunday, 26th December in Cardiff, however, a number of positive Covid-19 cases within the Cardiff Rugby squad have been reported by the region,” said a URC statement.
“The URC Medical Advisory Group has liaised with Cardiff Rugby and the Public Health Wales and deemed that the fixture cannot go ahead as scheduled.
“The United Rugby Championship will now consider available dates to reschedule the game.”
