Mike Blair’s men became the first northern hemisphere team to win a URC game in South Africa thanks to a 21-5 victory in torrential rain – accompanied by more than 80 percent humidity and a temperature of 23 degrees.

Blair Kinghorn crossed twice and fullback Emiliano Boffelli claimed a try and three conversions as Edinburgh underlined their play-off credentials.

Edinburgh faces the Lions next weekend and Muncaster is determined to follow up their incredible display against South Africa’s form team.

The back row forward said on a club video: “I’m extremely proud of the boys, that was a complete squad effort, everyone was so up for that game.

“The management was really good, they were a tough team but we stuck in there and put in a full 80-minute performance, which was vital.

“The Sharks are known for being extremely good in the last 20. There were a couple of games where they were down after 60 minutes against northern hemisphere sides and last 20 they just go away with it.

“I’m really, really proud of the boys. That was a full, full squad effort, from the starting 15 to the bench to the boys who weren’t playing, everyone was just fully into that.

“We are really, really happy with this result but we are going straight to the next game.

“This is a two-game tour, this isn’t finished.

“The Lions are an extremely good side and it’s extremely hard playing in high altitude in Johannesburg.”

Fifth-placed Edinburgh moved two points behind Glasgow, who lost in Cardiff despite scoring four tries and leading by 13 points.

Sebastian Cancelliere scored two tries for Glasgow, Sam Johnson and Fraser Brown got one apiece, with Ross Thompson converting all four, but the game turned on a yellow card for the Argentinian winger as the hosts won 32-28.
