Italian derby becomes latest URC fixture to be called off
NEWS: The Italian derby between Benetton and Zebre has become the latest United Rugby Championship fixture to be postponed due to Covid-19 cases.
It’s the fourth game in Round Nine to be called off.
“The game was due to take place on Sunday, January 2 in Treviso, however, a number of positive Covid-19 cases within the Benetton Rugby squad have been reported by the club,” said a URC statement.
“The URC Medical Advisory Group has liaised with Benetton and the local health authorities and deemed that the fixture cannot go ahead as scheduled.
“The United Rugby Championship will now consider available dates to reschedule the game.”
On Wednesday, a number of positive Covid-19 cases were reported by Cardiff, Dragons, Ulster and Glasgow Warriors, leading to the postponement of three matches.
The three fixtures are Dragons v Cardiff, Ulster v Leinster and Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors.
