The 27-year-old suffered a serious knee injury in Australia last year while on tour with England and he is in need of some game time ahead of the Test season.
It is believed Ewels will make his debut for the Bulls against the Sharks in Friday’s Currie match in Durban.
Ewels has 30 caps for England and all have come under former coach Eddie Jones.
