INJURY UPDATE: World Cup-winning Springbok lock Rudolf Snyman will make his long-awaited return in March, Munster confirmed.

The Irish team revealed in a statement that Snyman has been increasing his training load and will return to the field in March following his 16-month injury lay-off.

The 2019 World Cup winner has been recovering from a second successive cruciate knee ligament injury, following a setback in his recovery at the start of the season.

However, the 28-year-old has progressed to on-field training in the last weeks and appears on course to return next month.

His return will also give him a chance to get back in contention for Springbok selection for the Rugby Championship and ultimately stake a claim at World Cup selection.

Snyman has endured a dreadful time since joining the Irish province two years ago.

He has only played four times for Munster, with injuries and a firepit accident in June 2021 keeping him on the sidelines.

The Springboks will take to the field for the first time in 2023 in July when they face Australia, New Zealand and Argentina in the Rugby Championship.

They will then play three World Cup warm-up matches, against Argentina, Wales and New Zealand, before heading to France and the World Cup which starts in September.
