VIDEO: What could keep Tambwe at the Bulls

TRANSFER TALK: The Bulls remain ‘hopeful’ there is a way they can convince in-form wing Madosh Tambwe not to take up an offer from a cash-flush French club.

Tambwe has been in incredible form during the United Rugby Championship and delivered yet another inspiring performance at the weekend.

The wing scored a sensational try, his fifth of the URC, during the Bulls’ 34-16 win over Ulster at Loftus Versfeld.

Tambwe, who has previously played for the Lions and Sharks, has regained his form in sensational fashion at the Bulls and has been a vital attacking weapon since joining the Pretoria franchise last year.

His defence might need a little work.

However, that has not stopped overseas clubs from wanting the 24-year-old’s signature.

It has been widely reported that Bordeaux-Bègles are eager to sign Tambwe as a replacement for outgoing All Blacks Sevens giant Ben Lam.

Bordeaux-Bègles already has Springbok hooker Joseph Dweba on their books.

Tambwe recently expressed the desire to play for the Springboks.

However, he was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and does not have a South African passport, which makes him ineligible for Test selection at this stage.

Bulls Director of Rugby Jake White admitted that negotiations with the player are ongoing, and remains hopeful that Tambwe will stay at the franchise

“The more we win, the more he probably wants to stay, which is fantastic,” White told reporters.

“He’s playing phenomenal rugby, and I think he has a desire to be a Springbok.

“But it is what it is.

“We’d obviously like to keep him, and we’ve been negotiating.

“But if he has committed [to the move], then we’re going to lose him.”

White added: “He’s a very good case for me in that he came here [to Pretoria] from the Sharks. He wasn’t a starter there and was kept out. All of a sudden, people are talking about him.

“The team enjoys having him around, and he gives us confidence because he can finish.

“I’m just hoping, if he’s going to leave, then we get the best out of him in the next couple of months before he heads off.”

The Bulls are reportedly after the signature of Springbok wing Sibusiso Nkosi, should Tambwe decide to move from Pretoria.
