VIDEO: 'There is nobody we are really scared of'
SPOTLIGHT: With just two games left in the round-robin phase of the United Rugby Championship, Stormers head coach Dobson said his team will be going all out to try and secure a home quarterfinal.
The Capetonians started their two-match tour with a 44-21 bonus win over the Dragons in Newport over the weekend.
They will now head to Galway to face Connacht before ending the regular with a home match against the Lions.
“I think the top four probably went when we lost to the Ospreys, but we will keep fighting,” Dobson told @rugby365com.
“Munster won everything on their way [to the title] last time and I know it’s clutching a bit at straws, but we have put ourselves in the frame for it.
“What we just couldn’t let happen, was not play and not be in the top eight and the play-offs.
“There is nobody we are really scared of in this competition anymore.
“If we had lost today [Friday], it would have been really traumatic for us because, for a long time, it looked like we were going to.
“But we are in the fight now and if some of the results go our way, we could be in the top four.
“Our focus is experiences like this when we start winning away.”
On that win against the Dragons, the Stormers were behind for most of the game before three late tries blew the home side away.
“I think that is a very flattering scoreline,” said Dobson.
“I thought the Dragons were magnificent in the first half. We had our first attacking breakdown after 30 minutes.
“At half-time, you could have said “Jeepers Stormers, you are really poor’.
“We defended well, we gave away one or two silly penalties, but we didn’t really get the ball.
“We made one or two other handling errors, but the Dragons put us under a lot of pressure.
“They were excellent for that first hour.
“With the score at 21-16 in their favour and then to defend like that in our 22 and score those tries, that is who we are.
“Maybe the conditions helped us a little bit, but we lost a lot of those games overseas, so I am pretty pleased with the outcome.”
