Uncertainty remains around Etzebeth's concussion issues
INJURY UPDATE: Sharks head coach John Plumtree gave a concerning update around Springbok lock Eben Etzebeth’s ongoing concussion issues.
The 130-time Test capped lock has been out of commission since early December after initially suffering a back injury in the Boks’ final Test in 2024 against Wales.
“Eben [Etzebeth] is doing his return to play protocols with his concussions.
“So again it’s not a priority for me to know how that’s going because it’s concussion.
“I can’t say he will be right next week or the following week, so he’s just going through his [concussion] protocols.”

Plumtree also provided an update around fellow Springboks Ox Nche and Aphelele Fassi.
“Ox [Nche] will be scanned when he’s back in Durban on the weekend to see the extent of his tricep injury,” Plumtree said.
“[Aphelele] Fassi we’re not sure of, we don’t have an update on him, obviously we’re on tour and they’re at home being treated.”
