VIDEO: 'Lekker' to be underdogs

VIDEO: It will almost be déjà vu for Johan Grobbelaar when the Bulls take on Irish giants Leinster in a cold Dublin in the United Rugby Championship on Friday.

They are back where they did the near impossible in the 2021/22 URC semifinal, beating the powerful Irish province 27-26 – a feat no one thought possible.

Grobbelaar was one of the try scorers on that day.

Now, back in Dublin and back in the same hotel, playing on the same field, Grobbelaar is all smiles about the challenge ahead.

“It’s lekker to be the underdog,” he told a media briefing in the build-up to the Round 13 face-off at the RDS.

“Everyone expects Leinster to win, so it’s a lekker position to be in and we can only surprise them,” he added.

“They are a good team, but I think we also have the players to take the win as well.

“I think it will come down to who is going to be more clinical and who is going to make the least mistakes.

“It’s a great feeling coming back to Dublin.

“We are staying in the same hotel and playing on the same field.

“It’s not an easy task, but we have done it before.

“We showed that it’s not impossible.

“We believe we have a good chance,” he added confidently.

“It starts here in the URC, the South African teams playing against the Irish teams,” Grobbelaar said.

“We have prepared well this week. Leinster are one of the best teams in Europe, so it’s not going to be easy.

“We did the impossible. So we know we can do it again.”
