All to play for in Northern league

With three of the four participants in the Northern section of the 2009 Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championships still in the hunt for just two semifinal places, there is everything to play for in the last group matches on Monday, March 16.

After two matches, Dromedaris (UJ) top the log with nine points, followed by Over de Voor (Pukke) with five points and Tuks’ Maroela in third spot (four points).

Monitor (TUT) are out of the race for the semifinals, but their performance at home against Maroela could still be a telling factor in the final analysis.

According to Maroela coach Etienne van der Merwe, Monday’s last-round matches will be “all or nothing” for the Men from Tuks, since “the way we perform or don’t perform against Monitor will decide our fate”.

“We can still end in first place, come second or not even make the play-offs,” he added in convesation with varsitycup.co.za. “The margin for error is very small.”

There is just as much at stake for Dromedaris and Over de Voor when they clash in Potchefstroom – also on Monday.

The ‘Overs’ v ‘Drom’ match kicks-off at 2.50pm, which means that Maroela will know this important result before they run onto the field later on. (Maroela’s match gets underway at 4.45pm only.)
