Armentum v Vishuis the Kovsie 'biggie'
Three good match-ups are expected in the Steinhoff Kovsies Koshuis League this weekend – the second last round of matches for the term.
First up, Armentum will meet Vishuis (pictured) in what should just about be the pick of the matches.
Last year these teams had two rather close-run affairs, with Armentum winning on both occasions – 21-12 and then 25-24 in the return fixture.
Armentum, the 2009 Steinhoff Koshuisrugby champions, have not hit any real form yet; firstly just beating Veritas 19-15, then goind down to Heimat which was followed last week by a rather unexpected draw to Karee (15-all).
Armentum looked to be in control, leading 10-0 at the interval, but Karee fort back well to force the draw.
A loss on Friday to Vishuis will put the defending champion under some real pressure. Vishuis looked very good last week, nearly getting the better of a strong UFS Under-19 team (42-26).
Vishuis would have gained plenty of confidence from this game – all of which suggests a cracker of a match on Friday night.
In the other match on Friday, top-of-the-log Heimat face up against Karee, who are yet to win a match after two attempts.
Heimat, on the other hand, have picked up two good wins in a row – the most recent victory coming over Veritas (36-0); becoming the first (and only) team to date to earn five log points from a match in the 2009 Steinhoff Kovsies Koshuis League.
On Saturday morning, the university’s Under-19 team will do battle against JBM Hertzog, the only unbeaten team in the competition thus far. JBM could take heart from Vishuis’s good display against these youngsters.
JBM had a bye last week and this week it’s Veritas turn to follow the action from the sidelines.
