Maroela beat Monitor for place in SFs
Maroela (Tuks) are through to the semifinals of the 2009 Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championships after beating Monitor – from TUT – 24-13 on Monday in Pretoria.
Maroela scored for tries to one, with coach Etienne van der Merwe saying afterwards: “I’m very happy with the result, as our performance was a vast improvement from that against Dromedaris.”
He added that Maroela played very well in the first 40 and last 10 minutes, but “we still need to get it together for the whole 80 minutes”.
Van der Merwe continued: I was very impressed with our defence and ball retention. That ensured good continuity.”
The Maroela mentor paid tribute to the substantial contribution of two of the youngest players in the team – both of whom are first-year students.
“Theuns Jacobs (flank) and Rudolph Smith (No.8) were outstanding. Special mention should also be made of the fine performance by wing Jaco Myburgh,” added Van der Merwe.
Myburgh, Fritz Reynders, Jan-Spruyt Steenkamp and Shaun Eastman socred Maroela’s tries. Adriaan Bronman added the rest of the points with two conversions.
