Nadoes unveil their starlets

The Steinhoff Nadoes have been hard at work on the touch-field for the last few weeks, getting fit, honing their skills and getting focused for the 2010 Steinhoff Koshuisrugby Championships campaign.

As many know, the competition is open to UCT students only and, thus, the Nadoes has been expanded and grown to make sure they comply with regulations and still put out a massive vibe.

Clement le Roux thought, therefore, that he would introduce to you some of the new players that you would have seen in action in their first friendly at UCT on February 8.

Propping it up, they have recruited two fine ‘Bosch boys in Simon ‘Bands’ Bergman and Josh Carew. Both making the scales quiver in fear, and well aware of what a scrum-machine looks like, these two youngsters are great assets to their 2010 campaign and to the future of the Nadoes. Ryan Dean, a cobras stalwart will be ensuring those lineout throws are straight too!

At lock, we have recruited a star of last year’s champion UCT Under-20 side, Tom Horne. A lock in the Dayne Allenbrook mould, who has skill and pace to burn, yet needs no compass to a ruck. A Bishops boy originally, he is very excited to don the red and black.

Rumour has it that a cousin of none other than Jake Mitchell will also be locking it for Nadoes, a Zimbabwean Craven Week player, and battle-hardened from his time under Bob’s regime. Justin ‘Crouchy’ De Kock has also been rumoured to be making a move into the forward pack, and look forward to another lock with deadly speed.

On the side of the scrum Nadoes have some original players, but have added ‘Snakes’, a UCT, Cobras and Ubumbo stalwart to the mix. Let me tell you men, this man is big, fast, and would probably make many a man shaking were he to meet them in a dark alley. Look out for big things!

At scrumhalf we welcome the William Ryder of the touch field, Ian ‘Army’ Armstrong. This man could step you in an economy-class seat’s space (of room), and although no Mike Phillips in terms of height, he adds great skill to the backline.

Junaid Buffkins, a Marcel Brache lookalike, and player with skills that would make even Carlos Spencer look twice, comes in as a 10/12.

At 13, we have the classy Justin Bijl. Also a Bishops alumni, who in his time was seen dominating the Piley Rees, more recently he has been seen playing for the UCT First XV and promises to put some poor opponents in a coma on defence!

In the back three we are lucky to have Xanti Nesi, the UCT club captain and general all-round legend, speeding it down the wing, and then the last man in the line, the man with the Cullen-like step and the penchant for running it from anywhere, Mark Winter.

We really look forward to having all these guys join up with the stalwarts of Stu Hablutzenstein, B Wright, Stander, Ollie Johnston, Matt Russell, Matt Healey and none other than the squad captain, Bermuda! Please support these lads all you can, it’s gonna be great!!
